China is now an ageing society, and according to forecasts by the relevant authorities, the elderly population in China will exceed 400 million by 2035,of which the number of senior citizens and semi-disabled elderly will gradually increase.Due to the traditional concept of family care in China, the elderly prefer to live with their relatives and children, and most elderly care institutions are not willing to accept special groups of elderly people such as the elderly and the disabled, and even if they do,they only provide basic daily care. However, the reality is that many of the relatives of the special elderly groups lack the appropriate care knowledge, and it is also difficult for them to spend their time and energy to accompany the elderly and give them care, medical care and psychological guidance. This is why there is an urgent need to study the quality of life of the elderly based on social work expertise. In this context, this study takes the case of Z elderly semi-disabled people in X community in R city,S province.Through the disciplinary perspective of social work,it seeks to apply the professional theories, skills and methods of social work in the hope of helping the elderly to solve the quality of life problems of ageing at home, with the aim of improving the quality of life of the elderly in their homes and effectively increasing their life satisfaction. The focus of casework is on the adoption of a specific case-based approach to social work practice in the delivery of services. At the beginning of the case practice, the social worker actively builds a trusting professional relationship with the client, conducts an in-depth pre-assessment,effectively diagnoses the needs and problems affecting the client’s quality of life, and prepares specific practical interventions. In the case practice, social workers mainly adopt a psychosocial therapy model to help clients adjust their emotional state, improve their family communication patterns and interactions, provide external social support and improve their quality of life.At the end of the case practice, the social worker will evaluate the whole process and outcome of the case service, mainly assessing the effectiveness of the case practice and the changes in the clients.Based on the effective interventions of case social work, the quality of life of the clients has been improved and their life satisfaction has gradually increased.Based on the above-mentioned effective interventions, the social workers conducted an in-depth professional reflection on improving the quality of life of the elderly who are semi-disabled in their homes: firstly,an accurate assessment is needed to improve the quality of life of the elderly;secondly,a comprehensive plan is needed to improve the quality of life of the elderly;and thirdly, linking resources from various parties is needed to improve the quality of life of the elderly. In addition, the social workers also made some suggestions to improve the quality of life of the elderly who are semi-disabled at home: firstly, the professional capacity and service level of social workers should be improved;secondly, the individual needs of the elderly who are semi-disabled should be given due attention;and thirdly,a complete social support network should be built for the elderly who are semi-disabled.
