As society continues to develop and the average life expectancy of the population increases, the number of elderly people in China continues to increase, and the number of people suffering from dementia, one of the diseases that have a greater impact on the physical health of the elderly,is also on the rise.People with dementia in China are mainly cared for by family members who have no experience or skills in caring for them, and these carers are often under great pressure from psychological, physical and financial aspects. While society is currently paying more attention to people with dementia, there is a lack of comprehensive understanding of carers of people with dementia, and many carers are caught in a difficult situation where their capacity is inadequate and needs to be enhanced. Therefore, social workers should have an accurate understanding of the actual needs of carers of people with dementia, and provide them with targeted services and guidance to facilitate the enhancement of carers’ abilities. This study takes caregivers of dementia patients in E Hospital of Jiangxi Province as the research object, and investigates the current situation of the ability of caregivers of dementia patients in E Hospital through questionnaire survey method,semi-structured interview method and observation method, and finds that caregivers of dementia patients in E Hospital generally lack professional caregiving knowledge, have low home care ability, insufficient rehabilitation training ability and heavy psychological burden, and the internal family and family The factors affecting the ability of carers of dementia patients were analysed from both internal and external aspects. The author randomly selected ten carers of dementia patients from the survey population as service recipients, assessed their current needs objectively, formed a support group under the guidance of empowerment theory and social support theory, designed and implemented six group activities, and used group work methods to provide targeted interventions in four dimensions: dementia-related knowledge, daily home care ability, rehabilitation training ability, and emotional and burden relief ability. The group work approach was used to provide targeted interventions in four dimensions: knowledge about dementia, daily home care skills, rehabilitation training skills and emotional and stress relief skills. The process and outcome effects of the group work were analysed to measure the effectiveness of the group work interventions in enhancing the skills of carers of dementia patients.According to the practical process and results of group work, group work can,to a certain extent, effectively help caregivers of dementia patients to enhance their abilities,as well as help caregivers to enhance their positive attitude in the face of difficulties and improve their sense of self-efficacy.Finally,this study reflects on the practical research on group work interventions for the empowerment of carers of people with dementia, and makes recommendations for improving community support and community services, strengthening the support role of family members, and improving social policies.
