| As a special group of expatriates, international students can better adapt to foreign cultures by studying the different effects and effects of their use of social media on cross-cultural adaptation under the development of the internet society. This article takes Chinese students studying in Australia as the research object to explore the different effects and roles of social media in countries of residence and native language on cross-cultural adaptation of Chinese students studying in Australia in the Internet era,and adds online social support as an intermediary factor to verify. This study adopts a combination of quantitative and qualitative research methods: Quantitative research is based on the proposed 30 research hypotheses to design questionnaires, measure data, and use SPSSAU to analyze the data of 155 questionnaires obtained;Qualitative analysis is conducted by screening the research subjects willing to undergo in-depth interviews in the questionnaire, and selecting 20 qualified international students for in-depth interviews. The interviews are conducted using We Chat voice chat, with each interview lasting from half an hour to two hours. The introduction mainly includes four parts: research origin, theoretical basis, literature review, and innovation. The research origin section mainly elaborates the research background, significance, and purpose of the paper. The theoretical basis section focuses on the social media theory,cross-cultural adaptation theory, and online social support theory that this study focuses on.The literature review section summarizes the current research status of relevant theories at home and abroad, and determines the direction for subsequent research. Finally, after affirming the feasibility and innovation of this study, the full text is discussed. The main body is divided into four chapters: Chapter 1,"Research Design," describes the specific framework of the study in detail, including the design of research questions and the focus on the research object.Based on the literature review,30 research hypotheses are proposed, and a preliminary model of the study is constructed. On this basis, the design of the questionnaire and the arrangement of the interview outline are completed.Chapter 2 "Material Collection and Research Analysis" will introduce the specific implementation process of this study, including the distribution and recovery of questionnaires, and the collection and analysis of qualitative materials;Taking "the use of social media by Chinese students studying in Australia" as a starting point, descriptive analysis of demographic variables was used to present the distribution characteristics of the studied population, and relevant assumptions were tested. On this basis,a SPSSAU data analysis was conducted on 155 questionnaires, supplemented by in-depth interview materials.Using a combination of graphic and textual methods, the research hypotheses on social media use and cross-cultural adaptation of Chinese students studying in Australia were tested by category and level.Chapter 3 "Research Conclusions" explores the above findings: 1.In the Internet era, social media usage by Chinese students studying in Australia is still dominated by social media from their native country;2.The use of social media in the country of residence by foreign students based on functional satisfaction is beneficial to their language adaptation, communication adaptation, learning adaptation, and life adaptation, but the effect on cultural and psychological adaptation of foreign students is not significant;3.The use of social media in native countries based on emotional satisfaction can help foreign students adapt to life and psychology, but has not played a significant role in language adaptation, communication adaptation, learning adaptation, and cultural adaptation;4.The intermediary effect of online social support is significant, and different types of media countries provide different types of online social support to foreign students;5.The international student community exhibits a diverse and mixed cultural identity. Most international students choose corresponding social media applications based on different contact objects and media usage habits of others. As a result, their cultural identity also reflects a new characteristic of "pride in differences",and they face their own cultural hybridity with an optimistic attitude of "internationalism".Finally, the "Research Suggestions and Prospects" section analyzes the shortcomings of this study. |
