The newly revised Information Technology Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education(2022 Edition)advocates learning characterized by operability,practicality,and exploration(innovation),and focus on the development and changes of students in cognition,emotion and sociality from primary school to junior middle school.Actual surveys exposed that the traditional teaching model mainly in knowledge-based pays little attention to students’ cognitive and emotional development,and provides insufficient innovation and thinking space,leading to a lack of initiative and low level of learning engagement in Python programming learning.However,previous research demonstrated there is a significant positive correlation between academic performance and learning engagement of junior high school students.By experimental research,the present study aimed to analyze the conceptual framework and teaching process of the 7E teaching mode(the 7E teaching mode mainly includes 7 teaching stages: Elicit,Engage,Explore,Explain,Elaborate,Extend,Evaluate),and explore its effectiveness in enhancing junior high school students’ learning engagement in Python programming classrooms.The specific research questions are as follows:Q1.What problems do junior high school students have in learning Python programming?Q2.How to design a teaching framework based on the 7E teaching model to enhance students’ classroom learning engagement?Q3.What changes have taken place in students’ learning engagement under the7 E teaching mode?Adopting classroom observation,questionnaires,and interviews,this research analyzed the process and results of teaching practice,and compared the learning engagement differences between 7E teaching model and traditional teaching model in the three dimensions of cognition,behavior,emotion,as well as each secondary dimension.The following conclusions are drawn:(1)The main problems are insufficient use of deep-level learning strategies,weak initiative behavior and lack of interest in Python programming for junior high school students.(2)This study identified a teaching framework based on the 7E teaching model to enhance students’ classroom learning engagement,and verified the feasibility of carrying out the 7E teaching model in Python programming teaching for junior high school students.(3)The 7E teaching model has a positive impact on students’ learning engagement and academic achievement.
