Currently, the phenomenon of youth nostalgia has typical characteristics of ritual communication, which is in essence a cultural ritual established and shared by the participants. This study takes the Douban group "Pretending to live in 1980-2000" as the object of investigation, and finds that the nostalgia symbols build the nostalgia ritual scene of the group, and the group members participate in this nostalgia extravaganza together, generating meaning and sharing culture, ultimately achieving emotion share and identity, and completing an online "ritual" of faith-building.This paper takes the "ritual view of communication" as its basis.Based on the theoretical foundation of the "ritual view of communication",this paper uses a combination of participatory observation and depth interviews to interpret the phenomenon of youth nostalgia, studying the ritual behavior of youth nostalgia in the Douban group, trying to find out how the nostalgia ritual of the Douban group is constructed and what kind of cultural meaning is generated by this nostalgia ritual.By addressing these questions, the basic outline of the nostalgia ritual is outlined, the deeper meaning and cultural logic of the youth nostalgia phenomenon is analyzed, and the phenomenon of youth nostalgia is reflected upon. The study consists of the following main sections:The first part of the introduction explains the background and significance of the study, compares the existing research results related to the "communication ritual view" and "nostalgia",and clarifies the research content and research method of this study based on previous studies. The second part provides an overview of the ritual view of communication and youth nostalgia, firstly,it introduces the theory of ritual view and explains James Carey’s ritual view of communication, secondly,it introduces the current development of youth nostalgia and the phenomenon of youth nostalgia in the Internet, and finally,it analyses the characteristics of the online culture of the Douban group and gives an overview of Douban group "pretend to live in 1980-2000".The third part takes the Douban group "Pretending to live in1980-2000" as an example, and uses the relevant content and research path of ritual view theory as a guideline to decode the ritual of the group’s youth nostalgia phenomenon: firstly, the ritual metaphor of the youth nostalgia phenomenon is analyzed from the symbolic level, secondly, the users who play an important role in the ritual are studied from the perspective of the communication subject, and the construction of the "information field" of meaning sharing is analyzed from the perspective of the platform. Finally, the cultural significance of the youth nostalgia phenomenon under the "ritual view of communication" is analyzed from the connotation level, and its significance in terms of emotional aggregation, cultural continuity, and identity construction is analyzed. The fourth part reflects on the phenomenon of youth nostalgia and summarizes the core meaning of the study. The core significance of the phenomenon of youth nostalgia lies in its cultural value of "nostalgia and regression",which is to bridge the anxiety brought about by modernity, evoke and construct collective memory, and realize self-identity and group identity. The phenomenon of youth nostalgia has the significance of bridging the anxieties of modernity, evoking and constructing collective memory, and realizing self-identity and group identity. However,at the same time, there is also the possibility that people may be lost in the pursuit of cultural life, and the phenomenon of youth nostalgia under consumerism needs to be examined rationally.
