In the "14th Five-Year Plan for Sports Development," football is regarded as a top priority in the construction of a strong sports nation. To revitalize football and win the battle, the primary task is to strengthen the foundation and cultivate talent. The value of a football player is not only reflected in their excellent skills but also in their tactical decision-making ability in high-intensity competitions.Based on the personality trait theory, this study uses Eysenck personality questionnaire and self-designed tactical decision test to test the tactical ability of young male soccer players aged 13-16.Combining quantitative and qualitative research methods, this study studies the characteristics of football players’ tactical decision ability from the perspective of players’ personality traits, thus providing a basis for talent selection and training. The conclusions and suggestions of the study are as follows:1.There are significant differences in the tactical decision-making abilities of male teenage football players with different personality traits.Players with higher scores in the P(psychoticism)dimension ranging from 38.5-43.3 and the E(extraversion)dimension ranging from 43.3-56.7,and with a score less than 38.5 in the N(neuroticism)dimension, had higher tactical decision-making ability.2.From the number of significant influences of personality traits on the tactical decision-making ability indicators, personality traits had a greater influence on attacking indicators than defensive indicators.3.There is a correlation between personality traits and player decision-making characteristics. The P dimension is related to player aggressiveness, the E dimension is related to player pursuit of stimulation, and the N dimension is related to player decision stability.4.Personality traits have a buffering effect on the tactical decision-making of male teenage football players, which can weaken the influence of external factors on individual decision-making.Players with low scores in the N dimension and high scores in the E dimension show a significant buffering effect on external interference.Based on these findings, the following suggestions are made:1.Coaches should recognize the differences in personality traits among players and teach accordingly to explore their potential.2.Emphasize the cultivation of player confidence and creativity, and maintain a good balance between criticism and praise, with more praise than criticism.3.Pay attention to situational training during training and conduct targeted training based on the players’ personality traits.4.Strengthen the learning of tactical theory knowledge and enrich the tactical literacy of players.5.Enhance psychological skill training to develop players’ resilient mental qualities.6.Personality traits can provide a reference for predicting players’ tactical decisionmaking abilities, but cannot fully represent their game abilities.
