A Study On The Ethics Of Suicide News In Chinese New Mainstream Media

With the continuous development of science and technology and the popularization of the Internet,new mainstream media,with the help of new media forms and its unique communication advantages,has changed the media industry structure and transformed into new mainstream media.New mainstream media promotes the transformation,development,integration and innovation of traditional media resources.Its immediacy,mass,interactivity,and multimedia are all advantages that traditional media do not have.But at the same time,the problem of the prevalence of pragmatism and utilitarianism in the media industry is becoming more and more obvious and serious.The responsibility ethics of internet media has gradually been paid more and more attention by the news industry and academia.There is a complex relationship between media suicide news reports and suicidal behaviors.Reasonable and correct suicide reports can reduce suicidal behaviors,while wrong reporting methods would lead to suicide imitation and suicide contagion.Therefore,it is crucial to face up to the ethical issues in the reporting of suicide news from new mainstream media.Taking suicide news as the research object,this paper analyzes the current situation of suicide news reporting and its ethical issues.Through the analysis,it is found that the suicide reports in our country have the ethical issues of the right to privacy infringement,difficulty in guaranteeing authenticity,interest in suicide reporting,desire to spy on celebrity suicide,and emotional reporting of the love sanctification.Based on the research in this paper and Max Weber’s ethics of responsibility,it is emphasized that the media should fully consider the foreseeable adverse consequences in suicide reporting.When reporting suicide news,the media should follow the five ethical principles of suicide news reporting: the principle of least harm,the principle of respecting privacy,the principle of seriousness,the principle of moderation and the principle of abnormal reporting.And The media should consciously shoulder social responsibilities,strengthen the dissemination of suicide intervention knowledge,grasp the scale of suicide news reports and keep the balance between attention and dilution,and adopt warm reporting,conveying humanistic care.
