Social Amplification And Communication Governance Strategy Of Nimby Risk Of Chinese Investment Enterprises In Myanmar

Based on the theories of neighbor avoidance conflict and risk communication,with the help of the social amplification framework of risk,this study takes China’s investment enterprises in Myanmar as the investigation object,and analyzes the communication elements of Nimby risk of China’s investment enterprises in Myanmar by means of literature review,investigation and interview,case analysis and critical discourse analysis.Focusing on the shelving event of myitsone hydropower station as a case,this study analyzes the discourse mechanism of several main communication subjects of environmental risk amplification,and puts forward targeted ways and strategies to achieve effective communication,build trust and resolve the crisis,in order to provide some reference for China’s investment enterprises in Myanmar to prevent and resolve neighborhood conflicts.It is found that the communication factors of the generation of adjacent risk avoidance of Chinese investment enterprises in Myanmar involve multi-dimensional factors such as political public opinion factors,cultural differences factors,religious and ideological factors,nationalist emotional factors and so on.In the process of myitsone hydropower station shelving event,the western mainstream media,INGOs and environmental protection organizations,Myanmar folk media,through various environmental and political risk discourse practices,emphasized the degree of environmental damage and resource plundering of the project,ignored the benefits of the project to local economic development,exacerbated the amplification of environmental risk,and promoted the project shelving from environmental event to political event.Through the constant "stigmatization" and risk amplification of the project,it has become "politically correct" to oppose myitsone hydropower station.It is to urgently improve the communication mechanism between China and Myanmar and scientifically plan the strategic of risk communication.
