The survival and development of enterprises play an important role in Ghana’s labor force and economic development.Effective leadership is an important factor for sustainable development and long-term performance of an organization.Since the mid-1980 s,more and more leadership research has focused on strategic leadership rather than managerial and visionary leadership,therefore this study is needed to fill the knowledge gap.This study examines in detail the leadership status,problems and causes of Ringier Africa Digital Publishing Company(also known as RADP)in Ghana and proposes improvement strategies.This study adopts Burns and Bass’ s transformational leadership theory as the main analytical framework.Data were collected through questionnaires.The sample of the study was 250 employees,all of whom worked in Ringier Africa Digital Publishing Company,consisting of 230 junior employees and 20 managers.The study began by examining issues related to dissatisfaction in the workplace.Among them: laissez-faire leadership style,nepotism,tribalism,corruption and lack of employee rewards,lack of clear vision,lack of communication,lack of motivation and lack of internal support for external tasks.An articulated set of questionnaires divided into two main sections(for employees and managers)were used to collect data from employees across departments in the organization.Descriptive statistics was used to analyze the field data.The results show that the best combination of the five leadership strategies can improve RADP’s leadership,including leading by example and walkthe-talk,strengthening stakeholder engagement,enhancing employee recognition,providing incentives,improving communication and leadership support.The research further shows that efficient and effective leadership is an important tool to improve leadership strategies and organizational performance.In addition,the insights gained from this study can contribute to the future development of this line of research,especially in a country like Ghana.
