Research On The Scientific Communication Of Life Weekl

From 1920s to 1930s,with the establishment of the Academia Sinica and various academic institutions,China’s scientific system is truly formed.Quite brilliant achievements have also been made in many disciplines.The revitalization of modern science ignited a generation of intellectuals to spread science to the public.As the main channel for people to obtain information,journals take the responsibility of disseminating science.Professional publications such as Science World,Science Times and Science Life were founded at that time.Some comprehensive newspapers such as Oriental Magazine,Shen Pao and Ta Kung Pao also opened up scientific columns,and dissemination science became the common pursuit of journals at that time.The Life Weekly is a "new media" that emerged in Shanghai in 1920s.As a publication founded after the May Fourth New Culture Movement period,it not only spread advanced ideas,but also published many scientific news and commentaries.The Life Weekly try to improve the daily life of ordinary people through communicate scientific knowledge and scientific spirit.This paper puts the content of the The Life weekly in the context of Chinese modern science and social development.From the perspective of science communication,this paper use literature retrieval,content analysis and case study methods,take its science communication process as a case to analyze the subject,content,effect and characteristics of its science communication.Base on discussing the internal and external influence factors of the science communication activities of The Life Weekly,this paper reveals the science communication concept and its relationship between the New Culture Movement.This paper intends to solve the following three problems : why The Life Weekly need to communicate science? What science content does The Life Weekly communicate? What kind of "scientific life" picture is depicted for its readers? What are the characteristics of communication? What is the relationship between The Life Weekly and the New Culture Movement in science communication? Can we use this to describe the evolution and development of science communication after the New Culture Movement?Preliminary study finds that The Life Weekly science communication is rich in content,including both scientific figures,scientific progress and scientific spirit,and it focus on the practicality and popularity of communication.The characteristics of sciencecommunication activities of The Life Weekly reflect to the practical methods and basic concepts of science communication in 1920 s and 1930 s.The Life Weekly is not only a typical representative of mass media in the process of China’s modernization,but also the root of today’s SDX Joint Publishing Company.Therefore,studying the science communication practice of The Life Weekly has certain media archaeological value.From tracing the shaping of scientific life by The Life Weekly,it will establish a beginning of the pedigree about scientific communication of for today’s media in our country.
