| White-collar workers are the fastest growing professional group since China ’s reform and opening up.The growing white-collar population also affects and changes China ’s social structure.Based on the background of human media survival,WeChat has more than two billion users in the world,but in recent years,more and more users have shown a burnout and escape attitude towards the use of WeChat moments,which also means that people begin to consciously control the use of media.As one of the earliest groups to use WeChat and WeChat Moments,Chinese young white-collar workers reflect the complex mechanism of interaction between people and media in the daily use of WeChat Moments.What factors have disciplined the use of Chinese young white-collar workers? What impact has the use of WeChat Moments brought to Chinese young white-collar workers? What is the significance of the media for human? These questions deserve our further exploration.Therefore,this study hopes to objectively present the use behavior of Chinese young white-collar workers in WeChat Moments,explore the impact of the use of WeChat Moments on Chinese young white-collar workers,further explore the relationship between human and media,and reflect on how to use media to assist people’s daily life.This thesis uses Foucault ’s discipline theory to build the framework of the thesis,and explores the other ’s discipline in the cultural environment,media environment and workplace environment,as well as the self-discipline under self-cognition and self-examination.This thesis adopts three research methods: semi-structured interview,case study and network ethnography,and takes Chinese young white-collar workers in four first-tier cities in China-Beijing,Shanghai,Guangzhou and Shenzhen as the research object.Through in-depth interviews,we can understand the current situation and reasons behind the use of WeChat Moments of Chinese young white-collar workers,and observe the online interaction behavior of Chinese young white-collar workers in WeChat Moments.Record the group ’s unique behavior patterns and group culture,and explore the other discipline and self-discipline embodied in it.The results show that Chinese young white-collar workers are indeed vulnerable to the triple discipline of the cultural environment,media environment and workplace environment in their daily use of WeChat Moments,and then they have self-cognition and self-examination of their own use behavior,which ultimately affects the use behavior of Chinese young white-collar workers in the WeChat Moments.However,this kind of discipline is not one-way.The form and mechanism of media restrain the self-presentation means of Chinese young white-collar workers and implement the control of media.At the same time,Chinese young white-collar workers also use the multiple functions of the media to better show their personal image and achieve personal goals,reflecting the instrumental attributes of the media.It is undeniable that the media has become an inseparable part of people ’s daily life,but no matter when,human beings should not be coerced by technology,but should use all kinds of technology objectively and rationally,so that technology can better serve people ’s social life.In this thesis,Chinese young white-collar groups are included in the scope of social media research,which expands the research object in the academic field of social media,supplements empirical cases,and explains Foucault ’s discipline theory in a modern and Chinese way.It is hoped that it can help people better understand Chinese young white-collar groups and provide reference for further analysis of the relationship between people and media. |
