An Interpretation From The Geography Of Media: Based On The Investigation Of The Traditional Dwellings Of The Miao Ethic Group In Xiangxi Prefecture

In order to promote the construction of spiritual civilization in the rural areas of ethnic minorities and better promote common prosperity,this paper conducts a case study in Dongjiu Village,a traditional Miao village in Xiangxi Prefecture.This paper mainly adopts the methods of participatory observation and in-depth interviews,takes the local traditional dwellings—the old houses as the research object,and uses theoretical resources such as space production and spatial media to explore the role and challenges it plays in the villagers and the village,to provide experience for promoting the construction of new countryside and meeting the spiritual life needs of villagers in ethnic minority rural areas.The study found that the traditional houses in Dongjiu Village played three roles and brought various results: Firstly,as a medium space,traditional houses can produce information and meaning,help to shape the local characteristic Miao culture,it is an important tool for local villagers to compete for the right of survival;Secondly,as a local space,traditional houses are the witnesses of the villagers’ local identity,and this local identity is very important to the villagers’ spiritual civilization construction.However,as time goes,there are fewer and fewer traditional dwellings,and the villagers’ local identity has also ushered in a crisis;Thirdly,as a space for production,traditional dwellings are not only an important carrier for the formation and rupture of villagers’ social relations,but also a source of capital and power.Under the influence of various external forces such as the invasion of modernity,the "exit" of capital and the "panopticon" of power,traditional dwellings have formed a "strange circle of space",villagers’ local identity and identity attribution are in a "vacuum" state.What followed was many "flee" of villagers,which brought Dongjiu Village into a huge crisis.Based on this,at the end of this paper,with the help of "Actor-Network Theory",it provides targeted suggestions for the protection and development of traditional houses in Dongjiu Village,in order to better play the role of traditional houses in promoting the construction of spiritual civilization in ethnic minority rural areas and help achieve common prosperity.
