General Secretary Xi Jinping put forward the rural revitalization strategy in the report of the 19th Party Congress on October 18,2017.He pointed out that the solution to the "three rural issues" must always be the top priority of the whole Party’s work.This study investigates farmers’ media image through Farmer’s Daily,an authoritative and representative official media,and provides a reference for the official media to better report farmers’ image as China enters a new stage of rural revitalization development.The Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council issued the Strategic Plan for Rural Revitalization(2018-2022)in September 2018.This study examined 457 character communication reports in Farmer’s Daily during that time period;analyzed the characteristics of farmers’ images in the report using a combination of content analysis,text analysis,and case analysis based on media image theory and reproduction theory;and summarized typical farmers’ media images.This paper is divided into five parts.Chapter 1 introduces the background,significance and research value of the selected topic,compares the current situation of domestic and international research,and explains the innovation,research method and theoretical basis of this study.Chapter 2 uses content analysis to examine the distribution of farmers’ image reports by gender,region,age,occupation,and family relationship,and to obtain social information about farmers’ media images.Chapter 3 uses the text analysis method to analyze the report text of farmers’ media image through LDA topic model analysis,emotional analysis,and word cloud analysis.Based on the previous research content,Chapter 4 summarizes and refines the five categories of farmers’ images presented in Farmers’ Daily by combining media image theory and reproduction theory.The five categories include the economic image(i.e.,the image of farmers who stand on the tide and get rich),the cultural image(i.e.,the image of farmers who are pioneering and enterprising through education),the life image(i.e.,the image of farmers who are happy,harmonious,rich and vivid),the social image(i.e.,the image of farmers who are innovative,open and progressive),and environmental image(i.e.,the image of farmers who respect nature and treasure resources).Chapter 5 summarizes the characteristic advantages of farmers’ image coverage in Farmers’ Daily and presents suggestions for Farmers’ Daily to better build farmers’ images in the future.
