A Study On The Visual Rhetoric Of Political News Cartoon

Political news cartoons are the presentation of political news events or political phenomena in the form of commentary,most of which appear in the form of bantering satire.Compared with other news cartoons,they are more political.In addition,the ideas,views and emotions applied in the process of communication will affect the visual rhetoric ideography,and the effect of visual rhetoric ideography will also affect and determine the accurate transmission of the implied meaning of political news cartoons.Based on the comprehensive theory of rhetoric,semiotics and communication,this paper conducts an in-depth and systematic study on the visual rhetoric representation in domestic political news cartoons,and analyzes and discusses it from four parts.The first chapter,through inductive analysis,finds that the visual rhetoric ideographic features of political news cartoons are mainly manifested in political allegorical style,analogical imagination in composition,implied symbolism in function and prominence in means presentation.The second chapter mainly explores the deep mechanism of the visual rhetoric representation of political news cartoons.First,the creators will combine the current political news values to screen the political news themes that can be visualized.Secondly,it will use the law of iconicity to encode symbols and create allegorical visual rhetoric representations.Third,on the basis of the generation of visual rhetoric representation,the creator will integrate the multiple visual structures in the cartoon picture to convey the position and point of view with the help of visual imagery.Fourth,the recipient will use the common code base to perform imaginative decoding and reinterpreting of visual images;Fifth,communication and receiving will reach consensus in the understanding and interaction,which promotes the generation of symbolic meaning system and the realization of persuasive communication.The third chapter explores and concludes the visual rhetoric ideographic practice based on the first two chapters,and believes that the visual rhetoric ideographic practice is mainly embodied in four aspects: enhancing the conflict and contrast of political scenes in a dramatic way,softening serious political issues in the style of bantering and satirical rhetoric,promoting the spatial fabric of image symbols to transform perceptual images into rational cognition,and stimulating the audience’s emotion and value recognition through text-picture intertext.The fourth chapter mainly summarizes the deficiencies in the visual rhetoric representation of political news cartoons,which can be specifically divided into three aspects: the explicit use of some cartoon image symbols,the insufficient political metaphor,the inverted function of graphic symbols,the weakening of visual ideographic function,the lack of representation of news elements,and the obscure representation of symbolic meaning.The fifth chapter,based on the deficiency of visual rhetoric representation in political news cartoons,puts forward three improvement measures:grasp the code of iconicity,pay attention to graphic balance and make good use of political news elements.Since political news cartoons involve major domestic and international issues,they will play a very important role in the communication process,agenda setting and public opinion guidance.At the same time,on the one hand,visual rhetoric is an important basis for achieving communication effect,on the other hand,it also determines whether the news value of political news cartoons can be realized smoothly.Therefore,this paper has important practical significance for the study of visual rhetoric representation of political news cartoons.Based on this,from the perspective of visual rhetoric,this paper makes an in-depth analysis of relevant issues,in order to provide reference suggestions for the practitioners of political news cartoons.
