| China’s foreign aid projects are one of the channels to reflect the values and culture of the " a Community with a Shared Future for Mankind" theory, and the corresponding foreign aid news are an important means to highlight the cultural charm of the reporting country and arouse its appeal, which is crucial to the transmission of China’s values. However,China’s foreign aid news are in a certain "aphasia" state in the international communication, and rarely get the emotional resonance of domestic and foreign audiences. The western narrative, which plays a leading role in international communication,is very good at the narrative techniques that can arouse the empathy of the audience. If our news can draw on the advantages of western narratives and combine our own characteristics, our foreign aid news will be more appealing and sympathetic. Therefore, based on the strategic narrative framework, this paper conducts content analysis and textual analysis on the role narrative, spatial narrative, factual narrative and emotional narrative of the three mainstream media,China Daily,The New York Times and the The Guardian(March 11,2018-March 11,2022),in order to explore the different strategic narrative frameworks and logics of foreign aid news between China and the West, and extract what China needs to learn and retain from them. And summarize the strategic narrative framework suitable for our national conditions. The study found that, compared with the West,China’s news are more inclined to positive narrative, with positive guidance to the audience as the main content. However, the propaganda discourse lacks humanistic and emotional narrative expression, conceals the value advantages of "peace","friendship" and other universal significance under the guidance of the concept of "community with a shared future for mankind",and presents a monotonous reporting style as a whole. At the same time, although the western aid narrative can better mobilize the emotional resonance of the audience, the news often regard the aid behavior as a political game, which goes against the original intention of peace and mutual assistance. With a global perspective,China advocates a more inclusive and ambitious aid concept than the West. Therefore,in view of the current deficiencies of foreign aid news in China, this paper proposes a strategic narrative framework of aid news that is more suitable for China’s actual situation, including three measures: immersive storytelling, balancing positive and negative oriented information, and targeted dissemination of values. This framework can not only make up for the lack of narrative ability of international communication topics such as aid news, but also promote the two-way progress of narrative in localization and internationalization. |
