| In order to adapt to the rapidly changing market conditions, manufacturing enterprises often resort to ambidextrous innovation to improve their competitiveness. However, ambidextrous innovation faces problems such as technology path dependence, inaccurate demand positioning and difficulty in coordinating resources, and digital technology is considered to be an effective way to solve these problems.Existing research shows that the relationship between digital technology and ambidextrous innovation in the firm is complex, and in-depth analysis is urgently needed. Therefore, based on the resource-based theory, this paper takes "resources-capabilities-performance" as the logical framework to analyze the impact of digital technology adoption on ambidexterity innovation.Based on the panel data of 679 A-share manufacturing listed companies on the main board from 2013 to 2020,this paper uses multiple linear regression and panel threshold regression to investigate the impact of digital technology adoption on the ambidextrous innovation of manufacturing enterprises, and further discusses the mediating role of resource integration and the moderating role of absorptive capacity. In addition, starting from the level of regional, industry and enterprise, this paper adopts the grouping regression method to further explore the heterogeneous influence of the level of digital economy, the degree of industry competition and the nature of property rights in the relationship between digital technology adoption and ambidextrous innovation. The study found that:(1)both the breadth and depth of digital technology adoption have a facilitating effect on ambidextrous innovation;(2)there is a mediating role of resource integration in the process of digital technology adoption driving ambidextrous innovation;(3)absorptive capacity has a single threshold effect and a double threshold effect in the breadth and depth of digital technology adoption affecting exploratory innovation, respectively. After crossing the threshold of absorptive capacity, the spillover effect of digital technology adoption on exploratory innovation is enhanced significantly;(4)under the influence of the level of digital economy, the degree of industry competition and the nature of property rights, the promotion effect of the depth of digital technology adoption on exploratory innovation is obvious in areas with a higher level of digital economy, and the positive effect of the breadth of digital technology adoption on exploitative innovation is more obvious in areas with a lower level of digital economy;the breadth and depth of digital technology adoption to promote ambidextrous innovation are more obvious when industry competition is weak and industry competition is strong respectively;the promotion effect of digital technology adoption on exploratory innovation is more obvious in state-owned enterprises. After the above analysis, this study has certain theoretical contributions and practical insights.Theoretically,it improves the analytical framework of the impact mechanism of digital technology adoption on ambidextrous innovation in manufacturing enterprises, and enriches the scope of application of resource-based Theory in digital innovation context.Practically,it gives guidance and suggestions for manufacturing enterprises to apply digital technology rationally and carry out ambidextrous innovation activities effectively, and provides a reference point for the government to pay attention to the coordinated development of the digital economy and enterprise innovation, and to better play a normative role in resource allocation. |
