In recent years,artificial intelligence has become a major driving force behind a new round of technological revolutions and industrial shifts.Artificial intelligence technology is bound to have a significant impact on green innovation in varying degrees as an integral component of enterprise innovation.There are several important implications for promoting sustainable enterprise development resulting from artificial intelligence technology’s impact on the green innovation capabilities of enterprises.Firstly,this study defines artificial intelligence technology and enterprise green innovation capabilities.Using the theory of “dual nature”,this study innovatively divide the green innovation capabilities of enterprises into radical and incremental innovation capabilities.Consequently,the internal logical relationship between artificial intelligence,knowledge coupling,and the enterprises ambidextrous green innovation capabilities are analyzed theoretically,and the corresponding research hypotheses are proposed.Developing a conceptual model based on SOR theory and knowledge-based view.Secondly,the key variables of this paper are derived from data collected from manufacturing enterprises listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange and the Shenzhen Stock Exchange.According to the characteristics of the variables and the research needs,the multi-stage differential test was used to test the influence of artificial intelligence technology on the ambidextrous green innovation capabilities of enterprises,and a threestep test was used to verify the role of knowledge coupling as a mediating factor.In order to ensure the robustness of the research results,this paper adopts the propensity score matching method,parallel trend test,counterfactual test,placebo test and Bootstrap mediation test to carry out a multi-dimensional robustness test.Finally,the heterogeneity test is carried out from the perspective of technology level and region.Firstly,the results of the study indicate a significant positive impact of artificial intelligence technology on enterprises’ radical and incremental green innovation abilities.Secondly,complementary knowledge coupling and pioneering knowledge coupling serve as intermediaries,whereas basic knowledge coupling is not an intermediary.Therefore,artificial intelligence technology has the potential to improve enterprises’ capabilities to innovate in the green sector by affecting complementary knowledge coupling and pioneering knowledge coupling.Thirdly,compared with high-tech enterprises,artificial intelligence technology plays a more obvious role in improving the ambidextrous green innovation capabilities of non-high-tech enterprises and has a stronger role in the incremental green innovation capabilities.Fourthly,the promotion effect of artificial intelligence technology on the ambidextrous green innovation capability of enterprises diminishes from the eastern region to the western region,and the effect is more evident in the eastern region but not significant in the western region.Based on the above conclusions,this dissertation puts forward specific countermeasures and suggestions from the perspectives of enterprise technical level differences,regional differences and internal mechanism.
