Nowadays,Generation Z youth have labeled themselves as “social phobia” on the Internet, which presents social avoidance behavior in this way, exposing the communication problems of contemporary youth. This paper takes the theory of media dependence and social communication theory as the theoretical support, and uses the research method of questionnaire survey method and in-depth interview method to deeply analyze the media causes and consequences of social phobia behavior of Generation Z youth, and puts forward corresponding measures.Based on the results of the questionnaire survey confirming the correlation between media dependence and social phobia behavior, the in-depth interview method was carried out by coding and quantifying the interview results to construct a model: it is found that the emergence of cloud communication scenes, the normalization of mediated communication methods, the construction of digital communication identities and the reshaping of social personality in media environments are important reasons for promoting young people to label themselves as “social phobia”,and social phobia behavior will have a negative impact on young people’s relationship maintenance, emotional experience and self-growth.Social phobia behavior is a unique self-protection mechanism produced by Generation Z youth in the face of rapid development and changes in social interaction. In order to cope with the adverse consequences of young people in social interaction, they can be guided and prevented from both the individual and social levels: for individuals,it is necessary to awaken the individual’s awareness of the use of media and improve the individual’s media literacy. As for society, all parties should work together to create a positive social interaction environment for young people.
