Character talk shows have always been an important category in television talk shows. As an important component of television program communication, they are an important supplement to the relevant events of the interviewees,a key link in the accurate transmission of information, and an effective bridge for conducting dialogue with the audience through space.Interviewer questioning is the main way to obtain information in character interview programs. The level of questioning ability directly affects whether the interview purpose and presentation intention can be successfully achieved. For a long time, there has been a lack of previous research on the language ontology of interview hosts’ questions in character interview programs, and the existing achievements mostly focus on subjective experience summary or innovative approaches to interview programs.Based on the pragmatics of hosts and the knowledge of broadcasting, this study starts with pragmatic strategies to study the language used by interviewers in interviews. This article aims to study the appropriate questioning strategies used by interview hosts when questioning different types of interviewees.Taking Thirteen Invitations and Talking to Strangers as examples,we collected multiple episodes of program videos and text corpus for analysis.Through the analysis of specific examples, the specific context of the questioning activities of the character interview program is clarified.According to the different contexts and the different information needs of the interviewees, the main objectives of the interview host’s questioning in different contexts are clarified, and appropriate questioning strategies are explored to achieve the questioning objectives. This study found that in character interview programs with different interviewees, the interviewer’s questioning purpose varies depending on the interviewee.Questioning strategies are an effective way to help achieve the questioning purpose and ensure the smooth progress of the interview; The questioning strategies used by the interview host are hierarchical, including a macro strategy based on the overall embodiment of the interviewee,a meso strategy that specifically opens the topic, and a micro strategy that specifically addresses in-depth questioning in the question loop.In actual interview activities, each questioning strategy does not exist independently, but is included at various levels. When conducting questions, the interview host needs to appropriately select questions based on different macro modules and actual situations to ensure the smooth progress of the interview activity. This article specifically explores the questioning issues of interview hosts in interview programs, which to some extent is an in-depth theoretical study of interview programs, providing reference for improving the questioning ability of interview hosts and specific practical activities.
