With the further development of the financial industry, traditional interest income cannot meet the development needs of commercial Banks, and the status of intermediary business is further improved.Commercial Banks can improve their profitability by developing diversified intermediate businesses, but intermediate businesses are not without risks.Intermediate business, like asset business and liability business, also has certain operational risks. This paper aims to study the influence of intermediary business on operational risk of Banks and different types of commercial Banks, and the influence of intermediary business on their own operational risk. This paper first briefly introduces the research results of related literature at home and abroad, and analyzes our country commercial bank middle business development situation, based on the portfolio theory, risk management theory and the theory of synergy effect by choosing 42 listed commercial Banks in 2008-2019 panel data to establish the effect of risk management of commercial bank middle business empirical model. The empirical analysis shows that the relationship between intermediary business development and bank operation risk varies with bank scale. To be specific:1.In the full sample regression analysis, the operating risk coefficient of intermediary business for commercial Banks is positive and 95%of hypothesis testing is passed, proving that the more the development of intermediary business is carried out,the greater the operating risk the Banks will face;2.The empirical analysis of the four major Banks and non-four major Banks also found that the intermediary business has a significant impact on the operation risk of commercial Banks;3.Different from the previous conclusions, the empirical results of urban commercial Banks and rural commercial Banks show that the intermediate business in the urban commercial Banks sample has a slightly significant positive impact on the operation risk, while in the rural commercial Banks sample, there is no significant impact. This shows that the relationship between the development of intermediary business and the operation risk of Banks varies with the different sizes of Banks.Combined with the actual situation, this paper puts forward different policy Suggestions according to the different empirical results of large Banks and small Banks.Large-scale Banks should carry out intermediate business reasonably to cope with the corresponding operational risks, while small-scale Banks should continue to carry out intermediate business of product innovation and service innovation.
