Research On The Development Countermeasures Of Guangxi Sugarcane Industry

Guangxi is the largest sugarcane production center in China,accounting for more than 60% of the country’s sugarcane planting area and yield.The sugarcane industry is growing to be an important pillar of Guangxi’s economic development and the primary source of income for farmers.However,the development of Guangxi’s sugarcane industry has been hampered in recent times for a number of reasons.Therefore,research on Guangxi’s sugarcane industry and putting forward relevant countermeasures and suggestions are significant to promoting the healthy development of Guangxi’s sugarcane industry.This paper examines the development of the sugarcane industry in Guangxi using the research methods of review of the literature,field investigation,and empirical analysis.First,the development conditions and development status of the sugarcane industry in Guangxi are deeply investigated.Then the Cobb-Douglas production function is used to conduct an empirical analysis of the sugarcane industry in Guangxi.Finally,based on the survey analysis and empirical analysis results,it deeply analyzes the current problems and causes of the sugarcane industry development in Guangxi.The study results show that the sugarcane industry in Guangxi is in the stage of increasing returns to scale of production,and increasing the input of land,capital and labor can promote the increase of sugarcane production.Land contributed the most to total sugarcane production,while labor contributed the least.In addition,Guangxi’s sugarcane industry development is affected by the following issues:(i)the ability to innovate in breeding is insufficient,and the ability to promote good varieties is insufficient;(ii)the scale of production per household is small,and the level of mechanization is low;(iii)farmers’ income from sugarcane planting is low.This study proposes the following protective measures and suggestions in response to the problems encountered in the development of the sugarcane industry in Guangxi: First,improve sugarcane breeding and promotion capabilities.The second goal is to increase the scale of sugarcane production per household and improve the mechanization of the entire production process.The specific measures are as follows: encouraging the transfer of rural land and release of sugarcane production labor;increasing the construction of agricultural infrastructure;investigating and developing agricultural machinery suitable for Guangxi geographical environment;strengthening sugarcane production bases,and the construction of mechanization demonstration bases.The third goal is to increase the amount of sugarcane intensive processing and the benefits of sugar enterprises.The specific measures are as follows: tap the processing potential of sugar factories;promote sugar enterprises and unionization and reorganization;and increase support for sugar enterprises.The fourth is to protect farmers’ income from planting sugarcane.The specific measures are as follows: adopting various cost-cutting measures for sugarcane planting;diversifying sugar import sources;formulating reasonable non-tariff protection measures;promoting order production and stabilizing the purchase-sales relationship.
