In the decades since the reform and opening up,China has achieved remarkable economic development, and governments at all levels have gradually shifted their focus from solving the problem of economic subsistence to the spiritual level,i.e.,how to improve the residents’ sense of well-being.The relevant documents of the 2011 National People’s Congress proposed "making people’s lives happier," and improving people’s livelihoods has become a consensus.People’s well-being has become a hot topic of concern for the Chinese government and society, and how to evaluate and improve residents’ subjective well-being has become an urgent issue to be solved as China moves into an overall well-off society. The data from the Chinese General Social Survey(CGSS)is used in this thesis to analyze the subjective well-being of China’s residents. The distribution of happiness in terms of gender, education, marital status, health status, and the region between 2011 and 2017 is described, and the differences in subjective well-being factors among Chinese residents over time are compared and analyzed. The data for 2017 was used to analyze the impact of each factor on residents’ subjective well-being at different regional levels using both Lasso-Logistic regression and decision trees. The factors affecting well-being are both common and individual across the regions. In general, three major factors—health status, social equity, and education level—have a significant impact on the subjective well-being of residents in all regions. In addition, the factors influencing subjective well-being in the eastern region include social trust, pension, medical insurance, and being married;in the central region, the factors influencing subjective well-being include political outlook and household registration;in the western region, the factors influencing subjective well-being also include social trust and being married. In terms of the prediction results, the prediction accuracy of the factors influencing the subjective wellbeing of residents in the eastern region is higher than that of other regions;by comparing the two models,we found that both models have their advantages and disadvantages, and the prediction accuracy of the Lasso-multicategorical logistic regression model is higher than that of the decision tree model, but the process of the decision tree model is more concise and the results are more intuitive. At the end of the article,in order to improve the subjective well-being of Chinese residents, several policy recommendations are proposed for reference based on the results of the analysis of the factors influencing well-being in each region.Firstly,to maintain social equity,to maintain equality in social work from both economic and educational aspects;secondly,to continuously promote public expenditure on medical care,to strengthen the construction of the medical insurance system, and to actively promote the inclusion of psychological treatment in the medical insurance policy to ensure the physical and mental health of residents;the third is to raise the educational level of the residents, popularise the idea of access to education and the level of educational provision, ensure educational equity and realize the right of every resident to education;fourth, strengthen the construction of social trust systems in the eastern and western regions;fifth, improve the construction of social security in the eastern region;sixth, strengthen the construction of party members in the central region and actively promote the promotion of league members to join the party.
