The excessive income gap between urban and rural areas threatens social stability and economic development, and there is still a significant gap in the income of urban and rural residents in China. The 14 th Five-Year Plan clearly states that it is necessary to narrow the income gap between urban and rural areas and solidly promote common prosperity. The key to narrowing the income gap between urban and rural areas lies in increasing the income of rural residents. The transfer of rural labor is the prerequisite for realizing agricultural modernization and an effective way to increase the wage income of rural residents. The progress of agricultural technology is the core of the development of modern agriculture, which has an important impact on the increase of agricultural income of rural residents. In order to gradually achieve the goal of common prosperity, rural labor transfer is an important way to achieve it,and it also lays the foundation for large-scale agricultural operation, which is conducive to the development of agricultural modernization and the progress of agricultural technology, and is conducive to narrowing the income gap between urban and rural areas. It can be seen that there is a close link between rural labor transfer, agricultural technological progress and urban-rural income gap.In this context, studying the relationship between the above three has important theoretical and practical significance. Most scholars have only conducted one-way studies on the one-way impact between rural labor transfer, agricultural technological progress, and urban-rural income gap,and the conclusions have not yet been unified.Based on this, this paper deeply studies the correlation between rural labor transfer, agricultural technological progress and urban-rural income gap from the perspectives of mechanism analysis and empirical analysis.Firstly, this paper uses the Lewis model,Todaro model,push-pull theory and induced technological change theory to explore the interaction mechanism.Secondly, considering the regional differences, the panel data of 30 provinces(cities)at the national level and the eastern, central and western levels from 2002 to 2020 were established, and the panel vector autoregressive model(PVAR)was used to conduct indepth research on the interrelationship between the above three with the help of GMM estimation, impulse response and variance decomposition tools. The empirical evidence concludes that(1)At the national level, the interaction between rural labor transfer and agricultural technological progress is obvious.Rural labor transfer promotes agricultural technological progress. In the short term, agricultural technological progress has steadily promoted the transfer of rural labor. The interaction between agricultural technological progress and urban-rural income gap is significant.Agricultural technological progress will promote the widening of urbanrural income gap,and there is a lagging effect, and the urban-rural income gap has a strong hindering effect on agricultural technological progress.(2)In the eastern region, the interaction between rural labor transfer and urban-rural income gap is prominent.Rural labor transfer will promote the widening of urban-rural income gap, while the widening of urban-rural income gap will hinder rural labor transfer.(3)In the central region, the interaction between rural labor transfer and urban-rural income gap is significant.Rural labor transfer has a promoting effect on the urban-rural income gap,and the urban-rural income gap has a strong hindrance effect on rural labor transfer.(4)In the western region, the interaction between agricultural technological progress and urban-rural income gap is significant, and agricultural technological progress has promoted the widening of urban-rural income gap, while the widening urban-rural income gap has a strong hindrance to agricultural technological progress. In view of the above research conclusions, relevant countermeasures and suggestions are proposed:(1)optimize the allocation of farmland resources and help integrate the intelligent upgrading of agriculture;(2)Improve subsidies for the purchase of agricultural machinery to make up for the shortcomings of agricultural development itself;(3)Strengthen rural skills training and increase the realization rate of skilled employment;(4)Implement the project of "rejuvenating agriculture through digital commerce" and promote live streaming to bring goods into rural areas. This paper makes a certain contribution to the analysis framework of rural labor transfer, agricultural technological progress and urban-rural income gap,and also provides a certain theoretical reference for narrowing the urban-rural income gap and promoting common prosperity.
