In March 2023,Premier Li Keqiang once again called on the government to pay attention to green transformation and promote energy conservation and carbon reduction in key areas in his government work report. The secondary industry, dominated by heavily polluting industries, accounts for about 40% of China’s GDP and is also an important source of pollution. Its green transformation is the key to achieving high-quality economic development.Green innovation is an important means for enterprises to realize environmental sustainable development while maintaining economic growth. However,it is costly for individual enterprises to carry out green innovation, and green innovation has a long payback cycle, and will encounter resource constraints and various obstacles. Therefore, enterprises need to integrate the resources of upstream and downstream partners in the supply chain to achieve green innovation and promote the improvement of corporate performance. At present, there are few researches on the relationship between supply chain integration and green innovation. Most of the existing researches focus on the questionnaire survey on the effect and performance impact of collaborative innovation among partners in the supply chain. Then, based on the panel data of enterprises in heavily polluting industries, what is the impact of supply chain integration on green innovation and enterprise performance respectively? What are the differences of influence mechanisms among different subjects? What will happen when supply chain integration, green innovation and enterprise performance are placed in the same framework? These questions are very valuable to explore. In order to exclude the impact of socio-economic malaise on the availability of corporate data during the COVID-19 pandemic, this paper selects the data of listed companies in heavily polluting industries from 2010 to 2019 and combines Schumpeter’s innovation theory, transaction cost theory,resource-based theory and competitive advantage theory.Through empirical analysis, the following conclusions are drawn:(1)Supply chain integration has a significant positive correlation with corporate financial performance.(2)There is a significant positive correlation between green innovation and enterprise performance.(3)Green innovation plays an intermediary role in the influence of supply chain integration on corporate financial performance.(4)Performance fluctuation in private enterprises is more sensitive to the degree of supply chain integration; The effect of green innovation on enterprise performance in private enterprises is slightly stronger than that in state-owned enterprises.State-owned enterprises can better play the role of supply chain integration in promoting enterprise performance.(5)After the robustness test and the control of endogeneity, the conclusion is still valid. The innovation of this study lies in: taking heavily polluting industries as the research object, using objective data of listed companies to analyze the relationship between supply chain integration, green innovation and enterprise performance, and enriching relevant researches on supply chain integration, green innovation and enterprise performance with objective data.It is hoped that from the perspective of supply chain, the green transformation of heavily polluting industries can be provided with theoretical basis to achieve environmental protection goals and profit win-win situation.
