In this paper,in order to study the impact of changes in household life cycle on farmers’ willingness to operate on a large scale,a mediating effect model will be used to carry out an empirical analysis using the land transfer situation as a mediating variable,in the hope of providing the necessary theoretical reference for the development of large-scale land management in rural areas.Firstly, based on the existing data on land transfer at home and abroad,we search for trends in the development and research on household life cycle, agricultural land transfer and the influence of household life cycle on the transfer of agricultural land, and use Zhangzi County in Shanxi Province as the investigation area to analyse the willingness of farmers to operate on a large scale at different household life cycle stages.Theoretical analysis was conducted using statistical analysis and a mediating effects model to analyse the impact of the household life cycle on farmers’ willingness to operate on a large scale.Firstly, there is an obvious direct impact of the household life cycle on farmers’ willingness to operate on a large scale, and farmers at different stages of the household life cycle have different willingness to operate;secondly, the household life cycle can indirectly affect farmers’ willingness to operate on a large scale through land transfer. The area of land transferred is the highest for mature nuclear families, and the willingness of farmers to operate on a large scale is the strongest. At the same time, the "one-size-fits-all" land transfer policy no longer suits the actual needs of farmers,so it is necessary to guide farmers’ willingness to operate on a large scale according to their actual situation and promote large-scale land management.Government policies should take into account the different stages of the life cycle of households and provide more precise incentives to farmers to promote the development of the land transfer market and facilitate large-scale land management by farmers.
