Aimed at relatively lag of the study in injection molding design methodology, inorder to help engineers solving the difficult problem of spatial layout in injectionmolding design, based on the far-ranging understanding the recent advantages of thetheories and methods on products design, and injection molding design methods, theadaptive and reconfigurable design methodology for injection molding is put forward.The contributions are as follows:Firstly, the general process and problems of injection molding developmentapplying the tools of CAD/CAE/CAM is studied, adaptive design types and thereconfigurable character of injection molding design are pointed out. Including basicconceptual and thought, key technology and design flow, the frame model of theadaptive and reconfigurable design methodology for injection molding is put forward.The request modeling thought based units and the reconfigurable design strategy andmethods based function unit and structure unit are adopted, the efficiency of design isimproved.Secondly, the modeling methods of reconfigurable function units and structureunits of injection molding are studied. Based on the ways to achieve injection moldingand the principle of injection molding, the principles of the reconfigurable functionunits and structure units modeling are put forward. In order to solve the difficultproblem of spatial layout in injection molding design, regarding the behavior region ofreconfigurable function units and structure units as a carrier, the spatial conceptual isintroduced to the stage of function modeling. As a result, the whole conceptual designprocess is carried through the idea to optimize the spatial layout, the iterative process isshorten, and the new way to connect injection molding conceptual design model withthe particular design model comes into being.Thirdly, the knowledge system of injection molding design is studied. It sets outthe natural requirement of design to solving the question of knowledge management,facing to the adaptive and reconfigurable design methodology of injection molding, theknowledge model including the basal design information, the ontology glossary, predicative logic, the reconfigurable function unit, the reconfigurable structure units isbuilt. The hiberarchy of the knowledge model is clear and the maintainability is good,and the reuse of the knowledge of injection molding design is realized effectively.Fourthly, the function modeling method based on reconfigurable function units andCAE is put forward, and the integration between the result of CAE and function modelof injection molding with the carrier of behavior region of function units is set up.Based on the multi-aim optimize design methods of injection molding technics based onthe orthogonal experiment, the CAE method of function units behavior region definitionof casting and cooling is put forward, moreover, an example validates the validity ofmethod.Fifthly, the conceptual structure modeling methodology of injection moldingadaptive design for the harmony of spatial layout is researched. The measure model ofspatial constraints satisfaction degree of injection molding conception design based onreconfigurable constraint satisfaction is put forward, and the mapping arithmetic ofinjection molding function units to structure units based on the maximal reconfigurableconstraints satisfaction degree is established, and the optimization of spatial layoutwhich satisfies the constraint model is realized. The harmony problem of the spatiallayout in the injection molding conceptual structure modeling is solved preferably.Finally, injection molding conceptual design prototype system is developed basedon adaptive and reconfigurable design thought, useful exploration is carried out onaspect of achieving CAD on injection molding conceptual design. The prototype systemhas preliminary engineering application value.
