In this article, we reviewed systematically the cognitions of ancient doctors in cerebral infarction, summarize the therapeutic progress of contemporary TCM in treating this disease, analyse the particularity of syndrome, the pathogenesis and the therapy of cerebral infarction at the restoration stage, demonstrate the main pathogeneses of this disease at the stage above, i. e, kidney deficinecy, phlegm accumulation and blood stasis and propose the therapeutic principle, i. e, nourishing kidney, replenishing essence, purging phlegm, clearing heart, promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis. In clinic, 44 patients of cerebral infarction at the restoration stage with the syndrome of kidney dificiency, phlegm accumulation and blood stasis are treated by Yishen Huoluo Decoction reciped by professor ZhangQi, the total effective ratio is 82.6%, for syndromes of TCM, the ratio of thrapeutic group is 95.45%, both of them significantly better than that of the control group which are treated by Buyang Huanwu Decoction. Contrasted by single syndrome of TCM, most syndromes in the therapeutic group are ameliorated significantly better than those in the control group with notable discrepancy or extreme discrepancy. The results show that the way of nourishing kidney, replenishing essence, promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis is better than that of replenishing Qi and promoting blood circulation in treating cerebral infarction at the restoration stage. In order to probe into the thrapeuticmechanism of this decoction, we have carried out animal experiments, i. e, giving this decoction for a month to rats 15 days after being modelled on cerebral infarction, and observing its influence on bFGF and VEGF in the brain tissue. The results show that, in therapeutic group, bFGF is expressed notably higher and VEGF higher to an extent. This results demonstrate that the mechanism of this decoction in ameliorating nerve function is at least through intensifying the expression of bFGF and VEGF in brain tissue, so that the nerve tissue is protected and its repair is promoted.
