| Objective:Based on a novel Bi-Sensing Pulse Diagnosis Instrument (BSDPI), this thesis adopts BSDPI's artificial fingertips to fetch an array of pulse waves by duplicating TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) physician's finger-taking skill during the process of pulse diagnosis. The array of pulse waves can be a valid scientific data of the TCM physician's pulse-taking feeling, so it makes possible the quantitative research of TCM diagnosis and treatment, instead of qualitative research. Methods:This thesis conducts the wiry pulse research in hypertensive disease due to the highest possibility of wiry pulse appearing in hypertensive disease. The pulse signals are analyzed by time-domain analysis and three-dimensional Pulse Mapping (3DPM). It is hoped to find out the mutual differences between time-domain analysis and 3DPM of the well-known wiry pulse. Results:Six characteristic parameters in 3DPM were firstly used to assure the reliability of BSPDI by measuring pulse signals at the same subject before and after 30 minutes. The time-domain characteristic parameter anaylsis cannot differentiate between normal and wiry pulses. However, time-domain pulse differential analysis can quantify wiry and normal pulses by using the first peak P1 and the second valley V2. Six parameters in 3DPM include PEAK, PERIOD, LENGTH, WIDTH, AS, and DS, in which PERIOD, LENGTH, AS, and DS can be used to differentiate wiry and normal pulses.3DPM's characteristic parameters provide more items and different point of view to quantify wiry pulse than those in time-domain analysis. This study provides a special 3DPM synchronous analysis to corroborate whether 3DPM can mimic a TCM physician's clinic experiences to quantify pulse signals. Predictedly, the synchronous beating in two or three fingertips does appear in 3DPM and Plane Amplitude Average Wave (PAAW). This agrees with a TCM physician's clinic experiences very well. Moreover, this agreement does initiate a new page of pulse diagnosis quantification co-working with TCM physicians'clinic experiences because single-point pulse analysis including time-domain and frequency-domain analysis cannot conduct such an experiment. Conclusion:TPNI (Three Postitions and Nine Indicators) 3DPM made by BSDPI is used to quantify fingertip's feeling of TCM physicians. This study did find the way for 3DPM to quantify wiry pulse, but not taut and slippery pulses.3DPM is much better than time-domain analysis to quantify pulse diagnosis; however, they both can work together for better pulse diagnosis quantification.3DPM just walks out an initial step and will face the tough challenge by all pulses'quantification. This study just quantify whether it is a wiry pulse but not the category of wiry pulse that should be done in the near future. Due to high possibility of slippery and taut pulses, the next mission of 3DPM is to quantify slippery and taut pulses. It is prospected that the quantification of wiry, slippery, and taut pulses with other easy-quantification pulses such as narrow, slow, and fast pulses will provide sufficient information for TCM physicians' clinic diagnosis. |
