Blood-pricking therapy is particularly involved in "NeiJing" and still used today. At present, document theory research on blood-pricking therapy is limited to a unit of medical book sora doctor, which is not conducive to in-depth understanding of this therapy. This study combedand analyzed the literature of ancient blood-pricking, summarized methods, experience, rules of the ancient blood-pricking, which provided documentation and theoretical basis for the modern research and applications. Recognizing the relationship between these concepts or methods such as blood-pricking, meridians, acupoints, Acupuncture and Moxibustion. Showing the development of blood-pricking therapy, which is contributed to the effect of blood-pricking in acupuncture theory, especially in the evolution of meridian theory.Historical documents and research methods, academic history method and theoretical analysis method are applied to comb the literature of blood-pricking in this study, unearthed-oriented literature and handed literature are emphasized, non-medical literature and medical literature are observed together. Blood-pricking is considered from historical perspective of the theory of acupuncture theory, in particular, the evolution of meridian theory. Academic connotation and the association with meridian theory are depth analyzed. This study suggests that the development of blood-pricking can be divided into three stages. In early medicine, partial carbuncle and pusare treated by blood-pricking in local site. It is not related to meridian theory, even though it is used in conjunction with terms such as blood vessels, pulse from the background.Blood-pricking is mostly discussed in acupuncture therapeutic methods of NeiJing. Attending diseases include epain, viscera diseases, systemic diseases, etc. except surgical disease; Distal end of extremities, head and face, as well as certain acupoints or meridians are utililized in blood-pricking; Emergence and emphasison observation of blood vessels which leads to color, shape and texture change become an important basis for selection of treatment parts. Parts selection and indications are strongly influenced by the theory of meridians after it is incorporated into the meridian theoretical system. Theory of blood-pricking is upgrading significantly. Construction of meridian theory plays an important role in the interpretation of blood-pricking.Blood-pricking in later ages, is interpretated by quoting scripture, or occasionally expressed some extended meaning in the relevant acupoints content, which is not out of the classic. A very small number of physicians has brought a new discussion on blood-pricking such as ZHANGCongZheng whose master piece is RuMenShiQin. Posterity discussion on the indications of blood-pricking is no more than Neijing, which is also partially account for the majority of surgical disease, and less closely associated with the meridian theory.Secondly, blood-pricking in Neijing reflects the transitional period of acupuncture theory, in particular the development of meridian theory. Carbuncle and pusare mainly treated in early stage. Blood-pricking often combined with acupuncture acupoints in Neijing. Subsequently blood-pricking is weakened with the construction of classical meridian theory. As can be seen, the importance of blood-pricking lasted to Neijing, which co-exists with the meridian theory building at this time. To some extent, the meridian theory system gathered the practice of blood-pricking into the system of acupuncture by collaterals theory, offered the theory interpretation. But it should also noted that blood-pricking is gradually marginalized with a complete construction of acupuncture theory system and diversion of acupuncture laterly. The innovations of this study is that blood-pricking play an important media role in acupuncture theory, particularly in the evolution of meridian theory based on systematic combing and in-depth analysis of relevant literature. This study suggests the effect of one specific medical technology in evolutionary process of theory. From an other point of view, the interaction between medical technology, knowledge background and the building of theoretical system is an important and valuable research perspective for the trace and interpretation of the theory of early history of acupuncture.
