The music official system of china began with end of Shang dynasty, developed in Wei,Jin,Southern and Northern dynasty; and reached maturity in Tang dynasty. As one of the most powerful dynasties in Chinese history, music of Tang dynasty presented an unheard-of prosperous situation that Chinese music and international music were translating into each other, at the same time, the maturity and perfection of music official system provided protection for this prosperous situation, and provided an essential model for the continuity and development of after music official system.If we say that the most important part of Chinese music culture—professional musicians made a contribution to the inheritance and development of traditional Chinese music through practice, as the leaders of professional musicians—music officials made a contribution to inheritance and distribution of traditional Chinese music through thought and system. The study of music officials could reflect the status of development of Tang's musical culture, show the prosperity and perfection of ceremony system, and understand the musical culture of upper classes, even make a contribution to research into all of the Tang society.This study selects the music officials who play an important role in Tai chang temple and Jiao fang for research object, departing from the angle of ancient chinese bureaucracy, making use of multidisciplinary approaches such as bibliography, historical materials, studies on Chinese characters, sociology, management science and so on, to research into music official institution, music official's function, selection, salary, assessment, relationship between music official and music activities and so on, and to provide necessary theoretical basis and support for understanding all of the music officials in Tang dynasty.
