Korea and China have been closely connected to each other in every direction for thousands of years. In ancient times, China (especially Tang Dynasty) had important effects on Korean administrative machineries of government. The official documents form of China had an influence on a lot of Korean documents, too.To operate a nation's regime soundly, it is important to organize its communication system well. Communication in organization is similar with blood in human body. Therefore, the paralysis of communication may lead to the breakdown of the organization. There are many ways to communicate in a nation. But, the most important way of formal and institutional communication is a 'use of document'- i.e., the official documents system. Documents can overcome the limitation of geographical and time conditions, so each country has done their national administration works with documents. Especially, the official document system has a long history in the Orient. The forms, types and usages of ancient Korea's official documents were closely related with those of ancient China's official documents. Therefore, to understand ancient China's official documents accurately is a prerequisite for understanding of the ancient Korea' s documents. Ancient Korea' s official documents were affected deeply with China's, so it is desirable to do a comparative study of Korea's with China's. With this study, we can better understand similarities and differences of Korea' s and China' s. For example, we can find out what is Korea' s unique official document form. This study is an ancient official documents research in Korea and China. To do this study, comparative study and literature review were used. This study covers the period from the 14"' century to the 19"' century. This period corresponded to 'Joseon Dynasty' in Korea and 'Ming & Qing Dynasty' in China. And the materials for this study are not the present official documents but the ones used in the ancient times. In ancient times, it was not easy to distinguish between official spheres and private spheres. In the past, most of spheres were official parts and the subjects of documents were Emperor, Royal families, a government office and a private person. The documents of Emperor or a government office were more important and abundant than others, and most of the documents were related with Emperor or a government office. The documents of Royal families were important, too. But, it is not clear whether the documents of Royal families are official or private ones. Generally, those are classified as quasi-official documents. So, we exclude Royal families ones from this study. And, some documents of a private person were presented at executive agencies for 'approval' or 'request' and they were considered as official documents. But we also exclude these some documents of a private person from this study, because of the problem of the subject of documents. The standards for this comparative study of ancient official documents are sender, receiver, usages and an established form.It is valuable to study which types of official documents in ' Joseon Dynasty' were affected by which China's Dynasty and their changes of the times. We find the similarities and differences of the official documents and the mutual influences in both countries in the given period. Some documents forms and names were the same in both countries but their uses were different. Some documents from Qin & Han Dynasty, had been used in 'Joseon Dynasty' but the documents from 'Ming & Qing Dynasty' were not used. These finding are very interesting and important research topics. This study has some educational values like the following. First, it has the value of 'Secretary study'. Nowadays, 'Secretary study' in Korea has a crisis of identity. There are few research materials. 'Secretary study' can be divided into two parts - one is pragmatic part and the other is theoretical part, with the former more powerful than the latter. Therefore, this study can contribute to Korean 'Secretary study' with expanding its research domains. Furthermore, it can contribute to the identity of Korean 'Secretary study'.Secondly, it is about literary style. In China, the literary style has been a part of research spheres. The core of the literary style is the official document system. And the study of the literary style makes considerable progress in China. There is an independent Society of the literary style but it may lead to further research on literary style study in Korea. In Korea, but, the literary style has not been studied extensively. So, this study can lead to more research on Korean the literary style.Thirdly, it has 'cultural values' in both countries. The literary style is'the form of meaning'. The literary style reflects the cultural style of itsages. Therefore, the cultural outcomes in the specific ages are the literarystyle. So, ancient official documents could be specified sender and receiverrelation with 'courtesy' and the documents' form. And it shows the similarities and differences of both countries with the comparative study.Last but not least, it has practical values. Ancient official documents are no longer used in present time. Ancient official documents are very different from present documents. Although it is hard to say that ancient official documents affect directly present documents, history is succession from the past not discontinuance. Therefore, this study will lead the originality of present official documents.
