1.Purpose and significance of this subjectImplementing western development and quickening the development of west China are the great decision made by the Party and historical turning point of economical and social development in the west China. The west is the regions where ethnic minorities live in compact communities. The average quality of people is very low, at the same time, the proportion of illiterate and semiliterate is very loud. It is short of the qualified scientists and technicians and economical management personnel. It is also short of the ordinary laborers having high quality. The problem of talent is the primary factor of restricting western development. Therefore, the pivotal link of western development is the exploitation of talent resources. The exploitation of talent resource in west China is exploiting the talent resource of ethnic minorities to a great extent. An important means in exploiting the talent resource is to develop education. We should enhance people's quality by way of developing education.The education for ethnic minorities is an important part of educational business in our country. It is also the basic condition for realizing modernization and agglomerate power of the Chinese Nation. Developing the ethnic minority education is the key to bringing up the talent of ethnic minorities. In minority areas, the ethnic minority education can promote the modernization of people's ideas, bringing about the development and trail-blaze in science and technology, bringing along the overall development of economy and society in ethnic minority regions. It is the key of western development that the ethnic areas of the west enhance the total quality of people and readjust the laborer's structure of knowledge by means of developing education for ethnic minorities.Yunnan is one of the important regions where ethnic minorities live in compact communities. In Yunnan, 24 ethnic minorities such as Yi nationality, Bai nationality, Naxi nationality,etc. have been living here for generations. It is the same important means in promoting the continual development of economy and society in Yunnan minority areas that develop ethnic minority education and exploit talent resources. In academic circle, it has become the important study topic that how to develop the ethnic minority education in minority areas of the west especially Yunnan minority areas. During the Republic of China, the ethnic minority education in Yunnan took hold of progress at a certain extent. At the same time, it also existed many problems. The purpose of the thesis is to sum up its experiences and lessons and provide useful references for the development of ethnic minority education at the present time on the basis of synthetically studying the practice of ethnic minority education during the Republic of China in Yunnan. 2.Train of thought and method of research(1) train of thought of researchThe thesis will synthetically study ethnic minority education in Yunnan during the Republic of China from five aspects. Firstly, we should simply introduce the ethnic minority education and the correlative aspects of Yunnan's education for ethnic minorities during the Republic of China. Secondly, we should study the different levels of government's policies of developing Yunnan ethnic minority education during the Republic of China and developing survey in modern school education in Yunnan, moreover, it is the main content of this thesis. Thirdly, we should study the traditional education in Yunnan ethnic minorities during the Republic of China. It consisted of three parts: family education, social education and religious education. It was the primary form in Yunnan's education for ethnic minorities during the Republic of China. It had an important position in ethnic minority education.
