| Part I:Theor i es Study1.1Objectives and MethodologyA team of doctoral students in Chinese medicine’engineering from the Biomedicine Engineering Institute of Yanshan University collaborated with the team of doctoral students led by Professor Li Saimei of Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine to work on "the establishment of a new thinking paradigm among specialists in diabetes mellitus from the discovery methods of knowledge in medical diagnosis and treatment by contemporary renowned Chinese medicine practitioners based on the principles of integrating clinical cases with machine learning"."The investigation on the scholarly thinking and hand-down methods about the treatment of diabetes mellitus by Li Saimei with reference to her footing on the principles of integrating clinical cases with machine learning", conducted by Xu Sunjing, a member of the collaborated team, was a macro-study. Headed by Xu Sunjing, other members of the team then conducted micro-study on one prescription chosen out of the various results from the macro-study. The study I had been working on was Li Saimei’s clinical experiences on prescriptions containing Bupleurum as the monarch. Literature on such prescriptions, theories on the use of these prescriptions throughout history, their treatment effects and their course of development were unveiled and systematized in my study.1.2Results and implicationsThrough comprehensive review of literature documents and systematizing previous findings in the field, a new orientation for future development can be explored based on the existing knowledge. The significance is to assist Li Saimei in her investigation in the application of prescriptions containing Bupleurum as the monarch in the treatment of diseases, and to help her in the discovery, exploration, cross-referencing and solving related problems.Part Ⅱ:Clinical Study2.1Objectives and MethodologyThe diagrams showing the philosophical principles of discovery methods of knowledge on partial-order attribute lay a significant theory foundation of this project. They also serve as the basis for the theories and methods in the discovery of knowledge by renowned Chinese medicine practitioners in their diagnosis and treatment of diseases. This part of the project collected533clinical cases on various diseases handled by Professor Li Sai-mei.439clinical cases were selected for systematization and integration with digital data computers to reveal Li Saimei’s ways of constructing, discovering and acquisition of relevant knowledge in clinical diagnosis and treatment. The findings can be transformed into scientific knowledge that can be applied in clinical uses and can be handed down to the young generation of Chinese medicine practitioners. Such knowledge can be integrated into existing specialist systemic models, parts of which can be focused for further in-depth investigation. Macro-findings can be obtained making use of computing science and artificial intelligence. Based on these macro-findings, a certain topic can be taken out for further and more thorough study. My study is thus focused on Li’s experiences of using prescriptions containing Bupleurum as the monarch in the treatment of various diseases. The439selected clinical cases were systematized using statistics, then analyzed using inductive reasoning. Partial-order attribute structural diagrams are the tools for analysis, with both quantitative and qualitative studies employed in the analysis process. In this way, Li’s philosophy in applying principles and making prescriptions in clinical treatment is systematically examined and systematized.2.2Results and implicationsResults obtained from the study can reveal Li Saimei’s thinking paradigm in applying principles and making prescriptions in clinical use of prescriptions containing Bupleurum as the monarch, her personal style in using prescriptions in clinical treatment and the academic implications of such. They can supplement Xu Sunjing’s macro-study on "the investigation on the scholarly thinking and hand-down methods about the treatment of diabetes mellitus by Li Saimei with reference to Li’s footing on the principles of integrating clinical cases with machine learning" and help establish a data base on Chinese medicine for hand-down experience in this specialized field. Treatment of diseases with the help of artificial intelligence as a systematic tool is put into practice. The results of this study serve not only as useful reference for further post-graduate investigations in this area but is also helpful to other Chinese medicine practitioners by providing Li’s experience of using prescriptions containing Bupleurum as the monarch in treatment of diseases. |
