| This paper takes the “Ba†construction of mental identity as studyobject. We make a detailed exploration of the syntactic structure of theconstruction synchronically and define its constructional meaning. Wealso make a detailed exploration of the origin of the constructiondiachronically and think that it is the result of substitution of preposition. We also make a comparison between the “Ba†construction of mentalidentity and its corresponding expressions in Korean and English, andfind that although the expressions of the different languages in theworld may be very different, the commonality may exist between them, that is, there is a kind of functional commonality due to the commonneeds for expressions. In addition to Introduction(Chapter One), TheoreticalBackground(Chapter Two), and Summary(Chapter Seven), the mainbody of the paper includes four chapters. The third chapter discussesthe syntactic structure of the “Ba†construction of mental identity and itssemantic and pragmatic characteristics; the fourth chapter comparesthe construction with its relative construction and discusses its innerdifferences; the fifth chapter discusses the origin of the construction; thesixth chapter discusses its corresponding expressions in Korean andEnglish. The creative points of this paper are as follows:1. This paper is the first time to make a detailed exploration of theconstruction synchronically and diachronically.2. The construction as an independent construction is establishedaccording Construction Grammar Theory, and its constructionalmeaning is also extracted.3. Through the comparison with its corresponding expressions inKorean and English, we have a new understanding of the study on Linguistic Typology. That is, the study on Linguistic Typology shouldpursue the functional commonality, not the commonality of form. |
