The Authority And The Independence In Da Lachi

Da Lachi is located at the border of Gansu and Ningxia Province,where the people of Hui and Han live.From a macro perspective of history and reality,Da Lachi is located in the North-West ethnic corridor,and the way which Silk Road must be pas sed,what's the more,it has been an important national culture area----Mongolian Plateau in the north and Han confucist in the south,towards west,it is also the meeting point of multi-ethnic culture area,where it is typical for the cultural research of the unity of pluralistic society of Chinese nation,whose character is you in me and I in you.Da Lachi is a village in the west of China,yet a miniature of rural society of China.Through 100-year change research on the village,we can detect the change of the whole rural community of China.The change course from leading by authority to the independent action in this village is actually the action logic of rural society in China,especially in the north-west of China.The dissertation investigated the nearly one hundred year's changes of society,economy,culture,custom,belief and etc in Da Lachi by applying field investigation of ethonology and narrative structure of social history.The research is aimed at reflecting the change,transformation and the whole shape characteristic of the village since modern nation formed in China.By the description of the life of society,economy,religion,marriage,family and etc,the research is also aimed at probing into the causes of one hundred year's social cultural changes in Da Lachi.The dissertation focuses on two kinds of authorities,that is,the state and the local authority,which includes the authority of local political and economical elites,patriarchal authority,cultural and religious authority,each of whom performs its own functions,is coherent on with another in the social change and interaction with the populace,all of whom support jointly the course of interaction and adjustment in local society;On the one hand,the authority of state and local elites performs effective social control and adjustment,at the other one,the independence of local populace is fully reflected in their organizing and managing society process;The research found out that there exists ubiquitously a kind of shelter and sheltered relations of dependence between the populace and the authorities.Among them,the state administrative authority plays a crucial role to the economical change in one hundred years,and it has been a decisive factor,which was reflected in t he government administrative planning and mandatory policy and etc;other authorities are the decision groups and the specific expression of the choice of the populace independence when they face all kinds of existence pressure and uncertainty in their life;the patriarch and religious cultural authority has been medium of good wishes of the populace who seek the harmony with family,society and nature,who wish the life might be stable,the family might be prosperous,the offsprings might be thrived and so on.It is the all authorities that shape the hundred years' change of Da Lachi.The research has three academic inspirations: firstly,it is very important to probe into the factor and impetuse of social change in the research of social history,which is basic entry point in understanding and explaining the developing law of local society;secondly,the research on the society of a small village can be an microcosmic example of a great society.By all the typical microcosmic description rising to macroscopic level,the research made a critical introspection on Weber's theory of authority,at the same time made an expound and analysis on Chinese “self action” logic of the construction of social relations in their daily life,therefore explained the ubiquitously existing shelter theory mode in Chinese units and organizations from the cultural perspective;Finally,the reseanch illustrated: cultural capital and cultural self-consciousness are the road ahead to the populace in the village from dependence upon authority to independent life.
