A Research On Architectural Vocabulary In Pre-Qin

The study object of this thesis is the Chinese architecture lexical system in Pre-Qin period,including the lexis on housing,water conservancy,and roads,and it belongs to the dynastic study of specific semantic category.Based on the findings of the traditional exegetics,the thesis takes the research methods of the traditional and modern lexicology as reference and applies the sememe analysis and metaphor and metonymy cognitive theories to the static description of the Pre-Qin period architecture lexis at the synchronic level and exploration of the semantic evolution refularities at the diachronic level.Firstly,according to the semantic features of the 685 lexis closely related to the architecture during the Pre-Qin period,the study classifies them into three categories,namely,the lexis about housing,water conservancy and roads.And then,each category is further classifies into sub-categories.The thesis gives a static description of the lexis and analyzes the lexical concepts of each category from their semantic,generative and using properties to probe into the features and word formation from the aspects of their semantic differences,etymology,lexical structure,and evolution.Secondly,the thesis analyzes the lexical evolution of Chinese architecture lexical system in Pre-Qin period from the diachronic perspective.The study of the process of semantic changes is on the analysis of routes and types of the semantic extension through a comprehensive survey of the extension situations in Pre-Qin period.The study of the result of semantic changes is on the analysis of the variation range between the old and new sememes.Based on the analysis,it elaborates the semantic expansion,reduction and transfer to discuss the features and regularities of the lexis.Finally,based on the analysis of the semantic changes,the thesis expounds the semantic extension of the lexis under the influence of the metaphor and metonymy cognition.It also discusses the cognitive model and causes of the semantic changes.As the specific study of the Chinese lexical system during Pre-Qin period,the thesis exhaustively searches and tests the lexis related to architecture in Pre-Qin period through the combination of the quantitative survey and qualitative analysis.It provides with examples the statistics of the usage frequency of the architectural lexis in the classical literature of the Pre-Qin period,and combines the synchronic static description with the diachronic analysis to explore the word formation,the semantic evolution regularities and the causes of the evolution.In addition,the thesis combines the historical literature with the cultural reference to analyze the semantic meaning and the differences of the lexical concept of the same category.
