The style and composition techniques of music in the 20 th century are more abundant and complex than those of the "common writing period".Anton Webern is one of the representative figure of expressionist music, his music language is highly concentrated, and the sound effects like more bizarre and dissonant. His representative work is not much, there are 31 numbered ones. And one of the most influential is the late works of twelve-tone--Webern wasn't satisfied with pitch serialization, apply sequence principle to more music elements, such as the rhythm with independent meaning, setting the stage for the development of total serialism music, some music historian called the '50 s "s Webern later".String trio(op.20),completed in 1927,is the first work in which Webern fully used the 12-tone composition technique, which is an important work that reflects his transition from atonal to 12-tone composition and indicates the development of total serialism later.Based on the trios(Op.20)as the research object, this paper makes a comprehensive and in-depth analysis of its music elements such as pitch, rhythm, beat and timbre and so on.In addition, the author makes a multi-directional and detailed exploration of the form structure, sequence structure and symmetry principle in the Preliminary system, trying to understand the creative intention of Webern,so as to find the characteristics of this work. This article includes introduction, three chapters, conclusion and appendix. The introduction mainly clarifies the reason and significance of the topic and the research status at home and abroad. The first chapter discusses how Webern preliminary and organizes music material, with the second movement as the main object of analysis. The second chapter mainly analyzes the organization and development logic of Webern's pitch sequence and rhythm from the perspective of symmetry principle, taking the first movement as the main object of analysis.Through the detailedanalysis of music elements in the first two chapters, the third chapter will explore the extension of string trio(op.20)to the traditional structural framework. Finally, through the above exploration,a brief summary of the composition techniques and characteristics related to this work of Webern was made.At the end of the paper,I will sort out the background information and classification of Webern's works according to The New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians and then attach a sorted sheet music and form.
