| Since the latter half of the 20 th century, the development of images has exhibited a complex and varied trend, which has brought attention to visual culture and resulted in the emergence of academic research and theoretical achievements in this field. With the emergence of new technologies and concepts such as artificial intelligence technology, virtual reality technology, holographic projection technology and the concept of "metaverse",the trend of reconstructing contemporary images in terms of creation methods, visual content, dissemination channels, viewing methods and application scenarios has become more obvious.Given the interdisciplinary nature of visual culture, research is extensive and difficult,so many of the theoretical results are difficult to cover or answer the new situations and changes that have emerged in visual culture and images, and some theoretical views have not reached a consensus.Behind the phenomenon of image reconstruction is a microcosm of scientific and technological change and social development,a reflection of social values and ideologies, and a refraction of the evolution of visual culture.Based on the analysis of relevant image cases and existing theories, this thesis starts from the three elements of visual construction, visual representation and visuality of images, identifies the key elements of the transition from the era of mechanical reproduction to the era of controlled reproduction, and summarises the new characteristics, new composition, new knowledge, new forms and new paradigms of images in the current era of controlled reproduction. The thesis focuses first on the historical evolution of the image, sorting out the various stages of the image and analysing the reasons for the changes. With the historical development of images in mind, the thesis analyses the causes and motivations of contemporary image reconstruction, starting from two aspects: the advent of the era of digital technological images and the changes in the visual cultural environment;secondly, with technological changes as the core, the impact of contemporary changes in visual culture on images is elaborated from three aspects: the development of image media, the intensification of information dissemination, and the aesthetic transformation of the Internet. From there, three new visual forms of contemporary images and the establishment of a new visual scenario will be summarised, namely, the upgrading of traditional media, the extension of images into three-dimensional space, and the new concept of biocontrolled reproduction. Finally, after sorting out the trends of contemporary image paradigm upgrading,a new image visual system and paradigm is concluded in three aspects, namely, the reconstruction of the logic of information production and dissemination, the transformation of contemporary image visual relations, and the transmutation of contemporary image visual properties, which is in line with the contemporary visual cultural context. The study found that W.J.T.Mitchell’s theory of Biocybernetic Reproduction of image did not be refined to all practices of image creation and visual phenomena, and thus the thesis attempts to complement his theoretical research with the concept of image reconstruction. At the same time, with reference to Richard Dawkins’ views on cultural memetics, and identifying their relevance to Michel’s theory of Biocybernetic Reproduction,it is concluded that there are also "memes" in the creation and dissemination of contemporary images, which dominate the formation and change of the content, production methods and dissemination channels of visual information, namely "image memes".From this,we can deduce the changes in visual relations and visual properties of contemporary images, and summarise and construct a new system and paradigm for images. In this way,we can better study contemporary images, reveal the essential characteristics of the transformation and development of visual culture in contemporary society and culture, and bring inspiration and help to contemporary image creation practice and image theory research. |
