To cooperate with the development of the West Regions of China, accelerate the development of Xinjiang economy, utilize and manage Xinjiang water resource effectively, Xinjiang Water and Electricity Institute and Xinjiang Weather Bureau undertake the water resource sub-project of remote sensing research about Xinjiang territory resource. The whole project is taken charge of by Xinjiang Planning Commission. This paper is a part of the sub-project.Firstly, this paper has explained some basic conception of the geographical information system, some situations in international and domestic application and its development trend presently Etc. Then the author has construed and deciphered many remote sensing image by using remote sensing information processing software and produced many vectographs and grid images about Xinjiang water resource.Thirdly, by consulting the previous appraisal materials and other statistical data, the author has made some necessary calculations of water resource and set up the attribute databases about water resource in Xinjiang.Besides, by combining the space database of the water resource in Xinjiang and attribute database , utilizing the prototype model principle, which is a relatively popular software development at present, integrating geographical information system software with visual programming software, the author has developed a system about Xinjiang water resource management information. This system can be operated simply and has a good interface. We can use the system editing, inquiring, showing and analysing various water resource information of Xinjiang at the same time. Moreover it offers the theoretical foundation of decision to policymaker finally. In addition, during data processing, the author proposes to call Visual Basic OCX component program under the environment of ARC/INFO to edit theme attributes more efficiently and directly perceived.
