Geographic Information System (GIS) is a computer system that is used to collect, store, manage, deal, query and analyze the geographic data. The research is mainly on spatial data. The attribute data (especially the social and economic data) is usually only used to query, so it is difficult to find the underlying characters for spatial analysis. In some application domain, the city planning for example, the social and economic data is very important. The social and economic data is usually collected by area or district, which can't represent their real spatial distribution. This paper is based on the "Fifth" national R&D project "Digitalization of city planning and construction, administration and service". We analyze the necessary of the spatial expand of the social and economic data and research the method and technology of the spatial expand.First, this paper introduces the structure, function, key technology of the city planning assistanted decision support system. Then introduces the spatial interpolation method that is used to spatial expand. We analyze the character of the usually used spatial interpolation methods. In th end, based on the population gridded models, we produce a spatial expand model and use the model to deal with the GDP of chongqing of 2002,and analyze the result.
