Geologic sketch is one of the most basic maps in the geological report. Geologic sketch drawing is basic work which geologic party invests great technical force and money. Because geological pictures which have so mach characteristics such as complex figures , stochastic lines .various patterns and high precision, et al, so the current drawing software have being unusable in the geological domain. We have to do further re-develop works of these software.With the development of technology and the extending of computer application regions, the demand and the expectation which of adjustability, naturally inter-action and highly efficient about inter-equipments and system have become higher and higher. Human computer interface is developing from the main interface style of post WIMP (Window+Icon+Menu+Pointing Devices) interface style to Pen-based user interface. Pen-based user interface provides a natural, highly efficient, multi-Path and intelligent interactive mode to users. The interface mode is mainly free-write style which has continuous, real-time, parallel, multi-Path and inexact characteristics. There are many research results about handwritten recognition in recent years. Pen-based user interface is wide used in different fields such as three-dimensional entity design, benefiting intelligence, entertainment, conference and so on, while a little in geological research works.It pointed that Tablet PC would be the hardware mainstream of development. Describe information include nicety orientation, abundance property information of stratum construct and mine, remote sensing images ,sketch and digital pictures and so on. So fieldwork platform have to load GIS and database system to come true integrity geologic information in spot. Desktop computer is no convenient for take in fieldwork. Notebook is too difficult to sketch by using mouse. Palm has limited memory capability and small screen for describing geologic phenomenon. Comparing these , Tablet PC would more convenient in fieldwork. The software based on Tablet PC is advancing, while them on palm would be behind the time.Nowadays GIS has been wide used in different fields as Regional Geological Surveying and Geological Mapping. Using GIS as platform would satisfy relate technical standard and criterion of Geological Surveying, accord demands of publish high precision geological map.The field sketch system based on GIS would be a key component in the system of computer-aided regional geological survey, a important joint to achieve whole process digital computer-aided regional geological survey. The system will improve construct efficiency and convenience.There are no mature field sketch system based on GIS according to many literatures in recent years.
