With the development of our social economy in recent years, more and more big-span bridges have attracted peoples' attentions, and the deformation monitoring of bridge has taken more focus than the others in the field of civil engineering. As the representative of the new surveying tech, GPS has played a more important part with its unique advantages in traffic engineering, especially the bridge deformation monitoring. Meanwhile with its fast development, GPS technique produces new knowledge for bridge deformation monitoring, more traffic engineering, even water irrigation and electricity engineering Based on these, the system of bridge deformation monitoring with the core of GPS has appeared. After many years' development, GPS monitoring tech has made some dramatic progress. But it is different from other monitoring techs, because the data from deformation monitoring of GPS must be dealt with in some effective ways to meet the requests of the deformation monitoring. To solve these problems, the contribution makes some researches on the following points and gets some results below:(1) From the cause of pylon deformation, the methods and items of deformation monitoring in the field of bridge pylon have been analyzed. Based on lots of literatures, compared analyses have been done between geometry and structure monitoring ways in bridge pylon, and also it comes out the advantages and defects of each method, so this will bring some reference value to other similar projects.(2) From the design rules of monitoring system of pylon, the paper systemicallyresearches the constituents, every part's functions, especially communication network of GPS RTK. Combined with SuTong bridge project, three parts of monitoring system which consists of the functions, technical requests and economy have been designed and analyzed, at the same time, it also states the specific construction process, including the choice of GPS receivers, the allocation of base station and monitor stations, the constituents of communication network and its construction.(3) The basic theories of double difference and wavelets analytical methods have been researched, and the validity of two methods to detect gross error has been compared through the data. The dynamic characteristic of pylon by the method of spectrum analysis has been tested, separating the frequency from the swing of pylon at the same time, which provides data evidence for the design of pylon and security monitoring. It also researches how to make use of the wavelet technology to pick up the distortion information and tend by decomposing, reconstructing and clearing the noises. At last, the reasons of pylon's deformation have been analyzed, and the feasibility and validity of GPS RTK that is applied in the fields of dynamic characteristic and deformation monitoring of pylon are validated.
