By studying GIS spatial analysis technology, mathematical assessment model, integrated software development technology, and the GIS-based geological disaster risk assessment methods and theories, the GIS-based geological disaster risk assessment system was established. And in this paper, this system was applied to the cracks in Xian for risk assessment. Following conclusions are drawn:(1) The fuzzy comprehensive evaluation model, the extensible comprehensive evaluation model, the artificial neural network model, the spatial information model and the weighted index model was included in this system. Users can choose a suitable model for the actual conditions.(2) A GIS-based geological disaster risk assessment system which used the coupling technology of the GIS technology and the mathematical assessment models was established. Just choose a reasonable assessment indexes system and assessment model, the system can be used for various geological disasters in risk assessment.(3) Also, some auxiliary functions for risk assessment, such as the function of spatial data browsing and editing, spatial analysis and searches, automatic mesh generation, interactive assessment indexes system establishing and the weight calculating of index system(improved AHP), etc. were supplied in this system.(4) Finally, this system was applied to the cracks disaster risk assessment in Xian. And we got the risk intensity zoning map for the cracks disaster in Xian.
