In this study and like most other coastal regions, it was found out that the land use/cover of Conakry and its surrounding cities of Coyah and Dubreka was subjected to perpetual changes since far a long time. This is today a big concern for scientific researchers and government in the world. In this study, the aim was to evaluate the land use/cover change of this area, and then propose solutions. The population of this region has rapidly increased. This factor with authority from the project of urban development and national diagram of territorial planning has enabled us today to see the reunification of these three cities. The economic realities which have an influence on this land use/cover change are represented by agriculture which all the same is not viable. The breeding and artisans activities, transport system and several installations of industry are also economic activities found in these three cities. The method used in this study included a land use/cover classification; the population increased or decreased model, a GIS method (Overlay) and map interpretation. This meant that remote sensing and GIS technology (ETM+ and topographic map) was integrated. There were exactly two key dates: 1941 and 2000 during which the land use/cover pattern and its change in this region of study were covered in this thesis. The pattern of land cover of 1941 represents an embryonic landscape while 2000 represents a pattern of landscape largely disturbed. So during these 59 years, the land use/cover has changed. The situation is dramatic with the demographic growth, climate change, residential (urban and suburban) expansion, forests decreased, agricultural fields and industrial installation increased and so on. In this way, the analysis of the results has taken account of the socio-economic development and has proposed the measurements to improve the situation. The results of this research show the worsen level of the degradation of this land use/cover, that can allow the political and administrative authorities to set up a political body, rigorous and coherent for the rational exploitation and management of the land cover resources of this region and its local development. The body can also help to understand the land use/cover change process in tropical regions.
