Along with the revolution of martial technology, digital construction of battlefields has become an important factor for the further information contesting. Digital battle geographic environment supports the necessary spatial location foundations for the digitations of the army and kinds of military equipments. Therefore, the main mission of military surveying and mapping support is to support the environment of battlefields. It has sustainable influence to the battle whether or not supply relevant digital and papery maps in time.Geographical information and spatial data has become the premise and restriction factors in digitial battle field. The engineering is invested hugely, and the technology is asked very complicatedly. Not only the achievements precision requirement is high, but also the content of information is extensive. The traditional analog photogrammetric plotting and analytical mapping is not able to satisfy the need of basic spatial information production yet. And existing digital mapping systems at home and abroad can't satisfy the need of the production of military digital map. So, it becomes inevitable that developing digital mapping system which can suitable for the production of multi-scale map.Combined with many years working experience in military survey and mapping unit, and directed by the theory of digital photogrammetry, this paper analyses all kinds of requires and functions for digital mapping system. Tanking the object-oriented software modeling, analysis and design methods, propose the overall design and the detailed design of the main function module of digital mapping system, it realized the display of graphics, image processing, data pre-processing, data acquisition and editing, as well as the building of map symbol library. And it realized the mapping and integrated production of the spatial data. It reduced the labor intensity and shortened the cycle of mapping, improved productivity and the quality of the production of the map. Finally, the follow-up study: improving functions of data acquisition, editing and topology processing module, researching on map data quality checking module.
