Thripini belongs to Thripinae of Thripidae in Thysanoptera. Many species are important pests in agricultural and forestry. This paper focuses on the taxonomy of Thripini from China. The research history and present situation of Thripini in China and abroad are reviewed respectively. Morphological characters and taxonomic significances of Thripini are described. The materials and methods in this research are also introduced. The fifty-six species from seventeen genera in subtribes from China are observed and five of them are new to science. These five new species are detailedly recorded as well as their unique characteristics are illustrated. Keys to subtribes, genera, and species are given. Some questions on the classification of Thripini are briefly discussed. Checklists of species of Thripini from China, index of their scientific names and Chinese names are attached at the end of paper.New species are listed as follows: Stenchaetothrips argyrobiculatus, sp. nov., Stenchaetothrips caudotubus, sp. nov., Stenchaetothrips fengi, sp. nov., Odontothrips liupanshanensis sp. nov., Frankliniella hainanensis, sp. nov.Type specimens of new species are preserved in the Entomological Museum of Northwest A & F University (NWAFU).
