CNC engraving machine is widely used in the wood industry, stone industry, advertising industry, manufacturing industry and other industries. Currently, the market is dominated by three-axis CNC engraving machine, multi-axis CNC engraving machine is usually used for high-end products, high prices and high repair and maintenance cost of machine is the main bottleneck, which have restricted the application of multi-axis CNC engraving machine.For the market demand of five-axis CNC engraving machine,this project presents an economical five-axis CNC engraving machine design. With the software running on the PC, NC code will be converted into each axis output pulses, the output pulse signal through the computer parallel port is sended to the stepper motor driver to control the stepper motor movement, to achieve the movement of each axis and finish processing.Firstly, the paper describes the overall design program of five-axis CNC engraving machine, including CNC system software design, machine hardware design and machine structure design. Secondly, it discusses the numerical interpolation theory and method, and establishes a five-axis linear interpolation algorithm based on time division method. In terms of CNC software design, the paper has done research in the CNC code compiler, software loop delay method, the parallel port reading and writing operation and other key technologies. In terms of hardware and interface design, the paper further explores in the principle of stepper motor working and driving, optical isolation circuit design and stepper drive design base on the TA8435 chip. Finally, the design of this economical five-axis CNC engraving machine is feasible, which has proved by the actual processing example.Compared to the five-axis engraving machine valued a few thousands or even millions at current market, this design of five-axis CNC engraving machine will save at least 1/3 of production cost, but also greatly reduces the equipment running and maintenance cost in the future, it has high cost-effective, and thus a good solution to restrict the development bottleneck of five-axis CNC engraving machine, to provide an effective means for improving production efficiency and reducing production cost.
