Personalization and diversification of user requirements is becoming one of the most important characteristics of manufacturing. It is significant to rapidly response to the demand of the market for enterprises taking advantageous position in competition. In the meanwhile, manufacturing corporations have accumulated rich design experience in long course of product design, and there is an urgent need of an efficient and feasible method for repeated using of this existing design experience, to improve the quality and efficiency of product design. In order to meet this need, the modular design thought was draw into the design of numerical control machine. Based on the general method of modular design, module, modeling and configuration of CNC machine were researched according to the characteristics of it. A CNC machine modularity design system was developed by Solidworks. The main research contents are as follows.Firstly, the existing modular design theory and method was analyzed, and a module partition method, facing the customers based on the whole life cycle of products, was put forward. On the basis of customer demand, the customer demand function of fuzzy matrix was established for MCH63 series CNC machine. In the view of the product life cycle, each phase structure matrix was built. Clustering optimization calculation was carried out for the above matrix by using genetic simulated annealing algorithm.Secondly, in basis of module partition, the modeling theory and technology of CNC machine was studied in detail. The CNC machine model was divided into two parts, geometric model and information model. Parameterized modeling geometry method was raised based on the dimension driven principle. The encoding technology and interface module technology were mainly researched in the information modeling of module, and the function and classification of CNC machine module interfaces was analyzed. After that the module structure of diagram CNC machine interfaces was provided. On this basis the 14 coding system of CNC module was established, which was composed of affiliate relationship, feature information code and interface code.Thirdly, the method of NC machine configuration module which was case-based reasoning was put forward. How to use the retrieval algorithm to meet customer demand of CNC machine modules was studied emphatically. And the judging rule of whether the selected module could be assembled was given. The way of module automatic assembly in the SolidWorks platform was introduced. Finally, the system structure of CNC machine modularity design was established. And the main functional modules and operation procedures were analyzed. Modular design of the CNC system by SolidWorks was initially completed. And the running instances of the system were also given.
