The life cycle assessment (LCA) has been a hot spot of research and implication both here and abroad, and one of the most common uses of LCA is to improve the environmental performance of industrial processes. But the explanation and improvement assessment has been the least developed part of the LCA system. Combined with the present situation of LCA, the concept and the design proposal of Standard Flow were put forward creatively. A novel methodological approach, we called it the Standard Flow Comparing, was developed. The indicator for potential of process improvement and its weighting factor were derived. To a certain degree all the research solved the problem of the identification and selection of process development objects, and was beneficial supplement to LCA methodology. Life cycle assessment (LCA) for typical cement processes, the pre-calciner kiln, the wet kiln and the vertical kiln, was applied preliminarily for the first time in China. The system of Standard Flows for cement processes was presented primarily. The performance of LCA and the identification of target for industrial improvement were analyzed comprehensively. The result of LCA was analyzed and explained, and some suggestions for the related research were given in the thesis.
