The giant pandas habitat and surrounding area is one main working part during the third national giant panda population survey. The district lies in Qin-Ba mountains at middle and upper elevation where the wildlife resources are very rich and the environment is very beautiful, but its social-economic development level is lower compared with that of outside according to the survey held in 2000. This thesis made a comprehensive and quantitative evaluation about the sustainable state of the district from two aspects of development level and coordination analysis, with several statistic methods such as PC A (Principal Component Analysis)and CA(Cluster Analysis) applied. The result revealed some regulations among subsystems under different area units. Generally speaking, units in shallow and near mountains have higher social and economic development level than those in remote mountains, while their resources and wildlife species levels are on the low side. According to coordination analysis, the coordination degree reaches its bottom at the two subsystems between social-economic and wild life species, so it can be deduced that there still exists interest conflict between human development and wildlife protection. Finally, the district is divided into four clusters among units based on the development level and cordination degree, and some counter-measures are put forward accordingly.
